Since 2020, and up to 2025, the AGEC law (or Anti Gaspi, as it's known) is working to transform our society's production and consumption model in depth, in order to limit waste, protect natural resources, biodiversity and the climate around 5 major axes:
With almost 130 articles, the AGEC law obliges all players in the economy - whether producers, importers or distributors - to reuse or recycle unsold non-food products, which represent over 2 billion euros in market value every year, and of which less than half are donated, as of January 1, 2022.
In fact, the government estimates that almost 80% of them, mostly small and medium-sized businesses, have not even heard of this legal scheme. To motivate pharmaceutical companies to opt for donations rather than destruction, the government has introduced CERFAs, or donation receipts, which are directly linked to a reduction in corporate tax. In return, the law provides for a fine of up to €15,000 per legal entity for failure to meet this obligation.
That's all very interesting, but what about Faks?
At Faks, we are particularly concerned by the loss and destruction of pharmaceutical products that are still ready for use. As a key player among pharmacy professionals, we are keen to help reduce these losses, by bringing together all the players who can make it possible for products that are still good to be used by those most in need. As a result, we are in regular discussions with laboratories, pharmacies and associations to devise tomorrow's system, which will enable all pharmacies to opt for donation rather than destruction. Pretty cool project, don't you think?
So if you have any ideas on how we can finally stop wasting medicines, or if you'd just like to give us your opinion or feedback, please send us a message to csm-labo@faks.co to discuss it!
